My name is Aly Kat. I am a visual artist, a fusion belly-dancer, and a lover of all things strange and unusual.

I have been an artist my whole life. Throughout every stage of being, I have experimented with making shapes, making color, making something that had not previously existed. My foundation is in painting and drawing. It has been what I started with as a child and what I always come back to. Over the years I have also ventured into photography (both film and digital), ceramics, and various methods of glass work, from a full hot shop to cold fusion in a kiln.

I attended The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 2002 until I graduated in 2006. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Traditional Illustration. I am interested in taking on projects illustrating children’s books as well as working with graphic novels and other forms of graphic story-telling.

I finally met my painting mentor, Rose Adare, while living in Hawaii, in 2016, and graduated from the first year of their atelier program in 2019. Under their tutelage, my oil paintings and drawings have matured and my style has become more fine tuned. I am also capable of painting high quality portraits and landscapes.

As for my dancing, I had some basic dance training in my younger years, but I did not discover my love for fusion belly dance until after college. I had moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and was looking for a fun way to get in shape. I happened to stumble upon Fat Chance Belly Dance Studios in the Mission District. Quickly, I fell in love with improv belly dance, and over the next three years made a regular habit of attending classes. Years later, I moved to Hawaii and became more involved in Fusion Belly Dance through my dance partnership with Hailey Linnea. Since then, I have been training here in Hawaii and back on the mainland with belly dance superstars like Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Kami Liddle, and Myra Krien. I have taught and performed all throughout East Hawaii and Honolulu, and teach private lessons for interested dancers.
